Although less widely publicized than organ transplants, procedures using donated human tissue affects over a million people in the United States each year. Tissue can be donated upon one’s death to others in medical need. Tissue donation is an option for most individuals.

Tissue Donation Facts:
One tissue donor can enhance the lives of 50 or more people.
Statewide in 2011, there were 250 bone donors, 254 skin donors and 655 cornea donors, which resulted in

thousands of lives enhanced.
Tens of thousands are in need of donated corneas to restore sight, bone and other tissue to repair injured or diseased bones/joints, skin to heal burns, and heart valves to replace diseased valves.
NJ Sharing Network is a non-profit, federally-certified, state-approved organ procurement organization responsible for the recovery of organs and tissue for the 5,000 New Jersey residents currently awaiting transplantation, and is part of the national recovery system, which is in place for the over 115,000 people on waiting lists.
