Saving Lives Through Tissue Donation
Like organ donation, tissue donation has the power to save and enhance lives.
Did You Know?
- Donated corneas help restore sight.
- Bone, ligament and tendons are used to repair injured or diseases bones and joints.
- Skin grafts heal burn victims and are used for breast reconstruction post-mastectomy.
- Healthy heart valves are life-saving to those with diseased valves.
Who Can be a Tissue Donor?
Anyone has the potential to be a tissue donor, but the ability to donate depends on an individual's physical condition and health. One tissue donor can enhance the lives of over 50 people.
Statewide in 2014, there were 490 bone donations, 512 skin donations and 915 cornea/eye donations, resulting in thousands of lives enhanced and physical function restored.

Note: When you register in the state of NJ, you are registering as both an organ and tissue donor. Advance directives allow you to be more specific in designating your wishes as a donor. Learn more about advance directives.
